The church started in 2013 with a dream of establishing a new church in Chesterfield. Soon after, 10 people started meeting together to pray, plan and seek the Lord about the future.
After a period of prayer and fasting, the 5 couples decided to go for it! Initially holding a small “vision evening” for about 25 people, they started meeting in Outwood Academy’s dance studio and established a charity called Redeemer King.
At Christmas 2014 the fledgling charity decided to take a step of faith and hired the much larger Assembly Hall. Over 130 people attended the carol service, and the decision was made to continue meeting in the large hall.
By 2018 the church had grown and began to take a foothold in serving Chesterfield and surrounding areas.
From the very start, the leadership of Redeemer King felt that God had called them to establish a large, vibrant, Bible-believing and spirit-filled church that would sacrificially serve the town and reach the most hurting, broken and lost. A key scripture for us is Luke 4:18-20, a bold vision for RK.
The whole church went online in March 2020 when the school we’d called home was amongst the first places to close its doors. We embraced a new way of doing church while we patiently waited to be able to meet in person once more.
The Parish Centre at Stonegravels became our temporary home in June 2021, allowing us to gather as a church family on the Sabbath again.
Then, in February 2022 we moved into our current and longer term home at Birdholme WMC – just across the town from where RK was formed. The move brought renewed hope and excitement as we look to establish new relationships and share the good news of Jesus in a new community.
