‘For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.’
Romans 8:38-39 (NKJV)
Eddie Askew dedicated much of his life to the relief of leprosy all over the world, serving for almost 40 years with The Leprosy Mission. In one of his books of meditations and prayers he writes:
……A few days earlier, I’d been in Darjeeling. There on a clear day, you can see the breath-taking snow peaks of Kanchenjunga, towering and beautiful. Some days though, the clouds boil up from the plains below masking the view. You look out onto grey mist, and it’s hard to realise the mountains are still there. But they are. In spite of the mist, they remain just as close, just as real.
So is the presence and power of God. Whether we feel him close, or distanced by our human fallibility, misted by our worries, he is here. His power and love ready to be experienced, lived in, celebrated.
….Lord of the universe, who bends to me.
Creator to created,
Infinite to infinitesimal.
What can I do but praise?
