Guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.’

Proverbs 4:23

If at first you don’t succeed …then skydiving definitely isn’t for you!!

Joking aside, what is “success”? If you were asked to define it, what would you say? There would probably be as many answers as the number of people asked.

Of course, Robert the Bruce said (apparently), ”…try, try, try again”, and even though that must have been some 700 years ago, it is a motto that is still spoken and lived out today in society. There’s an obsession with success and yet there is also confusion about what constitutes “real” success.

There seems to be a vague notion that success is linked to your education, your job, your family, to wealth, influence and so on. Well, there’s nothing wrong with that you might think, but these are all temporary measures of success. Wealth and influence are irrelevant in terms of true eternal success.

So, what is success in God’s eyes? Eternal success is about having your name written in the Book of Life through faith in Jesus; it’s about discovering God’s will for your life and using that purpose for His glory and not your own. Jesus said, “It Is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest” – Luke 9:48. God measures success very differently to the way the world does.
