‘The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.’

My kids (all grown up now) still rib me about my love of bridges 😊. I like trying to understand the engineering and how they work structurally. Many of them are very impressive and situated in stunning locations too. The Canakkale Bridge in China was completed last year and has the largest single span in the world, over 2Km (11/4 miles). The tallest is the Millau via-duct which stands taller than the Eiffel Tower above the Tarn Valley in France, and the Danyang–Kunshan Grand Bridge also in China, is the longest stretching over 164Km (102 miles).

But however awesome I think these creations of man are, they pale into insignificance against the wonder of God’s creation. The beauty of the Earth with it’s abundance of life, it’s mountains soaring miles into the sky and oceans deeper still, is just breath taking. In a moment, God created the laws of physics without which bridge engineers couldn’t even span a stream.

Psalm 19 which speaks of the glory of God displayed through the world He created and the Word He spoke opens with “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands”.

Amen
